Events and Divisions
The Open Water Swim will be held in the waters of Lake Erie at Edgewater Park in Cleveland.
Participants will have the choice of three distances:
Each distance has the same age groups within men’s and women’s divisions as the Indoor Swimming events. The three best times in each gender division’s age group will receive a medal. A participant’s age group is determined by that person’s age as of 31 December 2014. The age groups are as follows:

Participants wearing wetsuits will be in a separate group, with men’s and women’s divisions and age groups. Note: the average water temperature for Lake Erie from 2000 through 2011 is more than 72 degrees Fahrenheit at this time of year.

Participation
Each participant must be a valid 2014 member of US Masters Swimming or the international equivalent organization from the participant’s home country.

The Open Water Swim competition will occur on 10 August 2014.
Open Water Timeline:
Check-in: 6:45am
Pre-Race Instructions: 7:45am
Start of First Heat: 8:00am
Start of Final Heat: 8:30am
Final Swimmer out of the water: 10:00am
Conclusion of Awards Ceremony: 11:30am
Rules
The competition will be conducted under the rules for Masters of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) and following the recommendations of International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) and US Masters Swimming.
* Free food and drinks will be provided (bagels, fresh fruit, water, juice, etc.)
* Please have picture I.D. available at check-in.
* Swim caps are REQUIRED and provided by GG9
* Participants must bring their own towels.
