2014 Gay Games Team Band
More than 150 musicians will practice separately then unite in Cleveland for three intense rehearsal days before their featured performance on Tuesday, 12 August.
Location: The Team Band Concert will be held at the majestic State Theatre at Cleveland’s Historic Playhouse Square District, in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Playhouse Square is the “world’s largest theatre restoration project,” and the country’s largest performing arts center outside New York City (eclipsed only by Lincoln Center), as well as Northeast Ohio’s home for touring Broadway shows, concerts, comedy, opera, dance and children’s programming.
Jadine Louie (Artistic Director) - Concert Band Performance
Jadine Louie will serve as artistic directors of the concert band event at the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation. The Lesbian and Gay Band Association recently announced the directors selected from all the fantastic submissions.
Known for her expressive podium style, Louie has appeared as guest conductor/clinician at numerous LGBA conferences and member events since 2006. Her musical work encompasses a wide range of ensembles—band, orchestra, musicals, big band and opera chorus. She was the longest serving artistic director of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band.

Hours: 7:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Traffic: 150-200 musicians - 1,000-1,500 audience members
But wait… that’s not all. Registered Band members will also have the opportunity to perform during the Gay Games Opening Ceremonies on Saturday August 9, 2014. Marching Band Members will enter Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena with thousands of athletes and registrants and will be featured performers in a traditional spectacular mid-west half time show!
Artistic Director - Laura Blake - Marching Band
Laura Blake will take the helm of the Marching Band performance. Blake has been a member of the Lesbian and Gay Band Association since the New York conference in 2008. A founding member of The Pride of Indy Bands, she is the marching and pep ensemble director and was co-chair of the 2010 conference in Indianapolis. She also served as artistic director of the 2012 “Keep the Promise on AIDS March” and was the assistant artistic director for the presidential inaugural parade earlier this year. Professionally, Blake has been the events manager for “Music for All/Bands of America” since 2005.
Registrants may choose to perform in either the Marching Band, Concert Band or both for the same band registration fee.
