Ride the HealthLine to the Adelbert curb-side Station. Walk down Adelbert Road to the Veale Center, a distance of 0.5 miles or about 10 minutes.
Or ride the Red Line to the east to Cedar-University station. Walk west along Cedar Glen Parkway, enter the campus on the right side of the road. Turn right and follow the sidewalk to the Veale Center.

Transportation

Case Western Reserve University’s Veale Natatorium is located 5 miles (8 km) east of Cleveland’s downtown Public Square. Using public transportation from downtown Cleveland, take the Health Line from Public Square (the Euclid Avenue and Ontario Street Station) to the Euclid Avenue and Stokes Avenue Station. The Veale Natatorium is located south of Euclid Avenue, walking along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and turning left/east onto the Harrison Dillard Trail, walking into campus, then turning right/south and walking to the Veale Center.

An alternate route using public transportation is to take the Rapid Transit Authority Light Rail train from Tower City Station, traveling east on the Red line toward Stokes/Windermere, exiting at the University Circle Station. Walk west along Cedar Glen Parkway, entering the campus on the right side of the road, walking past Emerson Hall, and turning left along a walkway that connects to the Veale Center.

Events and Divisions

Open Division Women's Division

The 2014 Gay Games Water Polo tournament will have one "Open" division for men, women or mixed teams. It will also have a Women’s Division, assuming that more than three women-only teams register. Women may register for both the Open Division and the Women’s Division.

Participation

No more than 20 teams may compete. Teams are guaranteed a minimum of 5 games. Each team will play no more than 2 games each day. Teams may be Women's, Men's, or Mixed. Teams contain at least 7, and no more than 20 players, two of them being goalkeepers. Players can register to only one team. Exception: Women competing in the women's division may also compete in the open division. Players may register to compete on any team, regardless of their place of residence.

All competitors must be currently registered in accordance with the regulations governing masters swimming in their country. Any competitor has to be at least 18 years old on 1 August 2014.

Rules

The tournament will run under the rules for USA Water Polo, the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) and following the recommendations of International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA).

Duration of play: 4 periods of 6 minutes, 2 minute intervals between the first and second period, as well as between second and third period. Five minute interval between third and fourth period. Ball possession: 35 seconds. 15 minute warm up before each game.

Gay Games 9 will be using current FINA rules. Each team will be allocated 1 timeout per quarter. In the event of a tie during bracket play, the game ends in a tie. In a game where a winner needs to be determined, play will proceed directly to a shootout of 5 shots. For the purpose of tie breaking during bracket play, a maximum of 10 goal differential will be used.

The Veale Natatorium is located in the Veale Center at Case Western Reserve University, located in the University Circle area of Cleveland, Ohio. It is the home pool for the Case Western Spartans aquatics teams. The pool is 40 yards long and has eight (8) lanes for swim competitions.

The pool’s depth is at least seven (7) feet (2.1m) across the length of the pool, and the water polo competition area is more than 8 ½ feet (2.6m) deep.

The stands above the pool has space for more than 700 spectators.
