Format
Volleyball matches are played with six (6) participants from each team on the floor at one time.
2014 Gay Games also offers Beach Volleyball as a separate sport. Please refer to the Beach Volleyball sport page for further information.

Participants competing in the Senior Division shall be at least 40 years old as of 31 December 2014.
Recreational C division is equivalent to NAGVA’s B division.
Skill Level
Participants who have a player rating under North American Gay Volleyball Association (NAGVA) should indicate such a rating during registration.
If you have questions regarding your skill level, please consult the NAGVA site at http://www.nagva.org.
Participation
Individuals only may participate on one Volleyball team, regardless of division.
Medals are awarded to the top three (3) teams in each gender’s division.

The Volleyball tournament consists of two (2) rounds:
- Pool Play (round-robin format)
- Double Elimination
The minimum number of matches for each team is seven (7) of which, two (2) must be in the medal-contention round.
The specific schedule for the tournament will be posted online before the tournament begins.
*Volleyball players who also want to compete in Beach Volleyball can participate in both events. Gay Games will make all efforts possible to arrange the schedule accordingly.
Rules
The rules of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) are used for all tournament matches, and modified by the latest rules and regulations of USA Volleyball Competition Regulations.
All preliminary matches are 45 minutes, which includes five (5) minutes for warm-up and 40 minutes for play. All preliminary matches begin with a score of 4-4 and are played to 25 points. There is a 27 point cap for all preliminary matches. If a tie exists at the time of expiration of a set, play continues until the next point is awarded.
Matches in the preliminary rounds are two (2) sets to 25 points each or 45-minute time limit, whichever occurs first.
Matches in the Double Elimination Round must be a 2-of-3 set to FIVB standards.
