Ride the E-Line Trolley to the stop on the south side of Euclid Avenue at East 21st Street. Cross the street to the north side of Euclid Avenue. Walk east on Euclid Avenue to East 24th Street, then turn right. Woodling Gym is behind Fenn Tower.

Or ride the HealthLine to the East 24th Street Station in the median. Use a crosswalk to reach the north side of Euclid Avenue. Walk down east 24th Street to Woodling Gym, located behind Fenn Tower.

Transportation:

Cleveland State University’s Woodling Gymnasium and the Recreation Center is located 1.5 miles (2.4km) east of Cleveland’s downtown Public Square. Using public transportation from downtown Cleveland, take the Health Line from Public Square (the Euclid Avenue and Ontario Street Station) to the Euclid Avenue and East 24th Street Station. Woodling Gymnasium and he CSU Recreation Center are located north of Euclid Avenue in the CSU Recreation Center/Physical Education Complex.

Parking: Use parking garage (fee) on the east side of the Recreation Center. 

Divisions of Participation:

Teams that enter in the 2014 Gay Games basketball tournament will enter into one of the following divisions:

Men/Mixed Women
Open A Open A
Open B Open B
Open C Open C
Masters 35+ Masters 35+
Veterans 50+ Veterans 50+

If a Division has fewer than five (5) teams, the Division may be consolidated into another Division.

All players in the Masters 35+ and the Veterans 50+ Divisions must be the age required by the division by December 31, 2014. The Veterans 50+ Divisions will be a 3-on-3 tournament, played half-court.

Both genders may participate in the Men/Mixed Category. The Women Category is reserved only for women.

Players may participate as part of only one team in the Open Division. Players may participate in the Open Division and either Masters or Veterans. For example, a player who is 36 years old may play in the Open B Division as well as the Masters Division. The tournament schedule will not take into consideration any conflicts in a player’s schedule.

Requirements for Participation:

Teams must have a minimum of seven (7) players on its roster, with a maximum of twelve (12) players as well as up to three (3) non-playing coaches.

Teams participating in the Veterans (50+) division must have a minimum of (3) players per team. 

Based on evaluation of skill level in Pool Play throughout the tournament, 2014 Gay Games has the sole authority to move a team to a different division.

Schedule:

The Basketball Tournament at 2014 Gay Games consists of two (2) rounds:

  • Pool Play (round robin format) (Sunday 10th - Wednesday 13th)
  • Classification Round (Single Elimination Tournament) (Wednesday 13th - Friday 15th)

The specific schedule for the tournament will be posted before the tournament begins.

Rules:

The competition will be conducted under the rules of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), modified by the NCAA and the National Gay Basketball Association. 

A summary of the rules are below:

Timing: The tournament will consist of two 20-minute halves, with a running clock. The clock will stop during a half as follows:

  1. Clock stops only the last 2 minutes of the second half. If one team leads by 12 points or more, clock continues to run during the last two minutes.
  2. Timeouts called only by the team coach.
  3. Player Injury.
  4. Technical fouls.
  5. As directed by the officials.

No shot clock will be used for the 2014 Gay Games tournament.

Overtime periods: Overtime periods will be for a total of three (3) minutes with a continuously running clock except for the last one (1) minute of the period.

Timeouts: Each team will have two (2) timeouts per half, and one (1) timeout in overtime. Timeouts do not carry over from the first to second half or from second half to overtime.

Each team should have two (2) sets of jerseys with numbers, 00 – 99.

Cleveland State University’s Woodling Gymnasium is located in the CSU Recreation Center/Physical Education Complex. The gymnasium has three (3) full courts with wood floors and is the home of the CSU volleyball and wrestling teams.

The building adjacent to Woodling Gymnasium is the CSU Recreation Center. That facility has two (2) full courts that may be used, depending on the number of teams in the tournament. The Recreation Center also has full locker room and shower facilities.
