Each event will have age groups within the women’s, men’s, and mixed divisions. A participant’s age group is determined by that person’s age as of the first day of the Gay Games, 9 August 2014.  The age groups are as follows:

Masters I: 35-44

Masters II: 45-54

Masters III: 55+

The level of a Doubles team is that of the more highly skilled player.

It is the Player’s responsibility to play in the correct division.  2014 Gay Games may move players to another division or possibly disqualify players if 2014 Gay Games determines that the players are playing in an inappropriate division.

2014 Gay Games may choose to combine divisions if a division has too few players to hold a competition in the division.

Participation

Players may enter into Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles events within the same division.  It is up to the participant to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Participants may play in a lower age division or in an Open division if they wish.

Participants may register for a maximum of three (3) events, Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Medals will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in each event.

The Racquetball tournament will be single-elimination with a consolation round if time and space permit.  If a particular division is too small to justify a traditional bracket, the Tournament Director may use a round-robin format.

The winner of a match is required to be the referee of the match immediately following, or is responsible to arrange a substitute.  Any player who does not referee or provide a referee for the following match is subject to disqualification.

Rules

The Racquetball tournament shall be governed and conducted under the rules of the sanctioning body, International Racquetball Federation (IRF) and its US affiliate, United States Racquetball Association (USRA). Changes in any rules will be posted to this website within one (1) month before the scheduled competition.

All matches will be best 2-out-of-3; the first two (2) games will be to 15 points (win by one point); the tiebreaker, if needed will be to 11 points (win by one point).

Every player is required to wear protective eye-wear.
