Cheer Competition Specifics


Dates:

11 August 2014
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Divisions:

  • Mass—all participants from established teams and unaffiliated cheerleaders
  • Groups—established teams only
  • Individuals—all participants including established team members and unaffiliated cheer leaders
  • Spirit Spectacular—Show Cheer, Partner Stunt Cheer, Group Stunt Cheer, Spirit Exhibition

To promote inclusion and maximize the number of cheerleaders who can participate in all divisions, the Gay Games Spirit Spectacular will follow a gender non-specific operating model. No distinction shall be made between all-female, all-male, and co-ed cheerleading teams.

Show Cheer/Dance/Pom Cheer

  • Competitive division to be adjudicated by panel of event judges
  • Non-stunting and non-mounting performances focusing on jumps, dance, formations, motions, spirit, artistry and overall routine impressions
  • Stunts performed within the Show Cheer division will not be judged
  • Two minutes and thirty seconds (2:30) routine length maximum
  • No distinction will be made between Show Cheer entries of different sizes
  • Each team can submit more than one Show Cheer entry
  • Participants in a Show Cheer entry may not cross over into another Show Cheer entry

Partner Stunt Cheer

  • Competitive division to be adjudicated by panel of event judges
  • Performances executed by one base and one top person focusing on stunts as well as spirit, artistry and overall routine impressions.
    • One additional spotter is required who is not in a position of providing primary support for the top person but must be in a position to protect the top person coming off a stunt
  • One minute (1:00) routine maximum length
  • Each team can submit more than one Partner Stunt Cheer entry
  • Participants in a Partner Stunt Cheer entry may not cross over into another Partner Stunt Cheer entry or Group Stunt Cheer entry
    • EXCEPTION: The additional spotter may cross over as the additional spotter in another Partner Stunt Cheer entry. The additional spotter may also cross over as the base or top person in ONE (1) other Partner Stunt Cheer entry OR as a participant in ONE (1) other Group Stunt Cheer entry

Group Stunt Cheer

  • Competitive division to be adjudicated by a panel of event judges
  • Performances executed by four (4) to five (5) participants focusing on stunts, pyramids and tosses, as well as spirit, artistry and overall routine impressions
  • One minute (1:00) routine length maximum
  • Each team can submit more than one Group Stunt Cheer entry
  • Participants in a Group Stunt Cheer entry may not cross over into another Group Stunt Cheer entry or Partner Stunt Cheer entry
    • EXCEPTION: a Group Stunt Cheer performer may cross over as the additional spotter in another Partner Stunt Cheer entry

Spirit Exhibition

  • Exhibitive (non-competitive) division will not be judged
  • Performances executed by complete cheer teams focusing on stunts, pyramids and tosses, as well as jumps, dance, formations, motions, spirit, artistry and overall routine impressions
  • Two minutes and thirty seconds (2:30) routine length maximum
  • Each team can perform up to one (1) Spirit Exhibition entry

Participation:

Cheerleading competition uses the rules of the United States All Star Federation (USASF), under the recommendations of Pride Cheerleading Association (PCA).

Teams may participate in all divisions.

Medals will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in the Show Cheer, Partner Stunt Cheer and Group Stunt Cheer competitive divisions.

Rules:

Each team will consist of at least five (5) participants.

Each team will choose its own music, which will be supplied in CD or MP3 format for compatible operation on 2014 Gay Games competition sound equipment. Music may not have explicit sexual statements or themes, and the music should be appropriate for all audiences.

Scoring will assess fairly and thoroughly all observable aspects of each competitive Show Cheer, Partner Stunt Cheer, or Group Stunt Cheer routine performed. Exhibitive performances in the Spirit Exhibition division will not be judged. Each performance will be judged on a scale of 0 to 10, with one score assigned to execution and one score assigned to difficulty.

  • Show Cheer-- three (3) judges
    1. Skills: Difficulty, Execution, Showmanship and Overall Impression
    2. Routine Movement: Difficulty, Execution, Showmanship and Overall Impression
    3. Overall Effect and Deductions: Time, Safety and Skills
  • Partner Stunt Cheer and Group Stunt Cheer-- three (3) judges
    1. Stunts Building: Difficulty, Execution, Showmanship and Overall Impression
    2. Tosses: Difficulty and Execution
    3. Overall Effect and Deductions: Time, Safety and Skills
  • Spirit Exhibitions-- zero (0) judges
    1. Teams are strongly encouraged to observe IASF Level 6 safety guidelines
    2. This division is exhibitive and non-competitive. Accordingly, safety guidelines cannot be enforced

Teams may participate in all divisions. Stunts performed within the Show Cheer Division will not be judged.
