Skill Level:

2014 Gay Games will offer the following skill levels for competition in American notation:

  • T – International- and national- team level, experienced tournament players
  • A – Competitive level, advanced players with several years of practice
  • B – Recreational with competition experience
  • C – Recreational without competition experience
*European notation: T=A, A=B+, B=B-, C=C

Registration for the badminton competition will be in the American notation.

Participation:

Participants may register for up to two (2) separate events. For example, a player may play singles and doubles, but not singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The badminton registration fee covers up to two (2) events.

Medals will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers each division’s skill level.

Schedule:

The badminton competition will consist of two sessions: Preliminary Rounds and Final Rounds in each division.  Preliminary Rounds will be held in a Round Robin Format.  The Final Rounds will be a single-elimination format.

Rules:

The badminton competition will be conducted under the rules for the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The levels T and A will play with feather shuttlecocks. Levels B and C may play with either feather shuttlecocks or plastic shuttlecocks, depending on the number of entries and equipment availability. 2014 Gay Games will announce on this website the type of equipment for Levels B and C at least 3 months before the event.
