Gay Games Prefered Training: LGBTQ Cultural Competency Training
Through a partnership with Gay Games, The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio has created a training program in anticipation of the the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation coming this August.
The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio is committed to creating sustainable change for LGBTQ inclusivity. Beyond the estimated $40 million economic impact of the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation for the region, the events will have a social impact for the region. It is the goal of The Diversity Center to create a legacy of impactful change that is more sensitive and welcoming to the LGBTQ community. Regional and national organizations and companies are encouraged to participate in the training opportunities available. Additionally, participating companies may select from a menu of cultural competency training programs to better prepare their employees to engage with the LGBTQ community.

Plexus, the Northeast Ohio chamber of commerce for the LGBT community and allies, is an affiliate of the National Gay/Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The NGLCC administers a certification process that starts detailing business information on a form and sending in an application fee. Plexus members who apply will receive a discount on the application fee-which more than pays for the cost of Plexus membership. Plexus can also help the applicant in filling out the form if need be. It is likely that someone from Plexus will also perform the site visit which is the last part of the process towards certification. The NGLCC web site has more about the goals and benefits of supplier diversity and certification.Once certified, an LGBTBE can enter information into the national supplier directory and Plexus will add your business to the Plexus Online Directory. For more information contact Plexus at info@thinkplexus.org.
